Mission Statement
The Harvard Historical Aviation Society is a non-profit organization that provides interactive and educational programming to commemorate and celebrate the unique history of the Penhold Military Base.

The concept of the Harvard Historic Aviation Centre developed in November 2006 when a group of people got together who were interested in preserving the unique history of the Penhold base in its many roles and capacities. The group had a particular interest in the twenty-five year period from early Second World War through the NATO years to the end of Harvard training at the base (1940-1964). There was also interest in celebrating the role of the bunker, cadet training and the infrastructure in the area that supported the various functions of the base through the years.

A workshop in January produced a three-year strategic plan.

The society officially came into being in February 2007 with the election of the first Board of Directors and achievement of official society status.  During 2007, the society achieved charitable status. Collection of artifacts, acquiring land for a permanent facility and planning for that facility are well underway.

Early in 2008, the Society decided to dedicate the future centre to Canadian NATO pilot training during the cold war years. In May of 2008, the Society acquired a lease on up to 10 acres of land from Red Deer County close to the original base entrance for $1 per year.
